Summer has just started and I've been so busy.

Most of my week was spent playing with my kids

and making some activities for our summer road trip.

Mastering Math Facts - Book Review

This upcoming school year,

we will be using Common Core for math.

One of the important parts is for my kids to

master their multiplication facts by the end of the year.

So...this book caught my eye.

 

 

When I was offered the chance to review Laura Candler's book,

I wasn't sure what to expect.

The first thing that caught my attention

was the book is aligned with Common Core.

As we all know, this is a must!

 

As I started looking through the book,

there were so many other features that I found beneficial.

 

1.  You don't need to use the whole book.

Laura suggests you assess your class

 and decide where you need to start.

As a third grade teacher, I'll be starting at the beginning.

 

2.  Each standard and the corresponding activities are listed.

If I need to teach or review a specific skill,

it's very easy for me to find the pages.

 

 

3.  A materials list and detailed directions are included for each activity.

Also, my favorite part, are tips from Laura on how to make

the activity run smoother.

 

After your students understand multiplication and division,

they can begin to memorize their facts.

Laura's book includes a program for that!

 

She gives ideas for evaluating your students

and putting together a motivational program.

 

Just like earlier in the book,

you will find LOTS of tips!

 

Laura shares how to practice mixed math facts daily

and progress monitor your students.

 

I wish I could share everything that is in this book.

It is very organized and easy to follow.

It seems like a complete program

that will be very easy for me to use in my classroom.

Today is just a quick post.

I've got the girls at daycare so I can do a major house cleaning.

Five For Friday - First Summer Edition!

I never post two times in one day,

but since today is my first day of break,

I'm going to do just that.

 

Summer Break!

It's hard to believe it's here already.

I have so much I want to do this summer

and most of it has nothing to do with school.

 

 

Here is my Five for Friday - First Day of Summer Break Edition.

 

 

1.  Need a good laugh, take a look at this picture of my daughter.

 

2.  I tried to make these banana split bites, but they didn't work.

It said to freeze the bananas with the peel on.

Don't do it.

It was so hard to get the peels off without smashing the banana

and melting the ice cream.

My plan is to make them again, peel before freezing

and deal with bananas that are a little bit brown.

 

3.  I enjoyed taking a 30 minute nap

and getting some cleaning done

while the girls napped.

 

4.  Here is a list of the summer lists I am working on tonight:

- vacation packing list

- house cleaning projects

- TpT products

- blog post ideas

 

5.  Nothing else happened today and I'm fine with it.

I so excited to enjoy this break with my two girls 

and finally get some things checked off my lists.

These Are A Few of my Favorite Things: Morning Must-Haves

Today was my first official day of summer break.  Yippee!!

To kick off my summer, I'm linking up with Halle at

Across the Hall in 2nd.

 

This week's them is Morning Must Haves.

 

1.  One thing I must have, whether it is summer or winter, is my coffee. 

I have a cup every morning.

If I want to treat myself, I go to Starbucks and get an

iced café Americano. 

 

2.  I also need my bagel or English muffin.

I actually wake up in the morning craving these.

The problem is I'm very picky and only want certain brands,

otherwise it just doesn't cut it.

The brands were chosen because they don't have much extra "stuff" in them.

 

3. My final must-have is Ocean Salt Cleanser from Lush.

I love how it makes my skin feel and the smell is awesome.

      

 

So there are is my list.

Tried it Tuesday - File Folder Thank You Notes

This is my last week of school and so I wanted the kids to make

thank you notes for a few special people in the school.

Check out what we made in my...

 

My initial thought was for the kids to make cards on the computer.

But then, I went on Pinterest and found this awesome idea.

 

I took a file folder and folded the two flaps into the center.

We decorated the outside, hole punched and added some ribbon.

Then each student had to write a short thank you note on a Post-It.

 

They were added in an organized way and this is how it looked.

 

 

I love this idea because all the kids get to add a note and it looks nice.

We made these for the room moms, custodians, secretaries and lunchroom helpers.

 

Besides a thank you note, how else could this idea be used?

 

 

Currently....A June Linky

So here we are again, sharing our thoughts.

As I was filling in my June Currently, it finally hit me....

FOUR MORE DAYS OF SCHOOL!

I can't wait to have some time at home with my girls 

and just try and get my life in order.

 

Thank you to Farley for setting this up once again.

 

 

Listening:  We are cheering on our Blackhawks this year.

My sister is a HUGE fan and so I like to follow the team just so I know what is going on!

 

Loving:  In my district, we still write our report cards by hand.

I need to go and find some white out tomorrow, because I made a few mistakes.

The positive part is we don't have to write any comments.

Report cards go home on Thursday, so I'm really glad to be done early for once.

 

Thinking:  Once again....4 more days of school!

 

Wanting:  We had a few days of temps in the 80's and now we were back in the 60's.

This week we are supposed to be in the 70's.

I really, really, really want the warm weather to come back.

 

Needing:  I need to sit down and make a summer bucket list for the home.

There are a bunch of projects I want to complete and I love to have lists.

I'll save the list making until Friday, my first day of break.

 

Vacation Essentials:  My family is going on vacation in July and so

I thought about what I need to bring with me.

What else could I need?
