 Your students will have fun as they roll a die and record 

the words they roll.

Then, they will use the words to write the correct type of sentence.

There is practice for quotations, simple, compound and complex sentences.

I used these all the time last year.  

There are different math fact forms included in this pack.

Some pages look like this.

 The page can be cut and each student is given a strip.

If you make it two-sided, then the students get to practice 2 different facts.

This is the other form. 

All factors from 1-5 are included on this page

and other pages have 6-10.

Reflecting About Reading Comprehension

READING COMPREHENSION!

Next year I'm going to be making many changes

to how I teach reading.

I'm currently reading the book, 

The Book Whisper by Donalyn Miller.

I've only read three chapters, so I haven't really made it to the "meat" of the book.

So far I know that I want to reorganize my classroom library.

I also want to quickly read more books that the kids are interested in reading.

I'm hoping that Donalyn will share how she conferences with the kids

and holds them accountable for reading 40 books.

I'm going to set a goal for the kids in my third grade class. 

I'm not sure about 40, but maybe 30.

I can always change it next year.

I want to plan more mentor text reading lessons

and really try to get my class to LOVE reading.

Our district helped us to get organized and find a reading level for each student.

I'm going to start this at the beginning of the school year.

I'm also going to keep going with my small reading groups.

I'm sure there will be some changes there as a read some other books this summer.

Here are two products I use all the time for whole class lessons, 

small group and even individual reading lessons.

These foldables are my top selling item.

They are easy to cut out and paste into reading journals.

You can also choose a few different foldables

and make them into a lapbook for any text.

These are another one of my favorite items.

The pages are meant to be cut in 1/2.

I often copy two pages back to back.

Each kid then gets a 1/2 sheet of paper.

You can put a few pages together to make a small packet.

I'll be honest, reading is not one of my favorite subjects to teach.

I have a feeling by reading some professional books and making a few changes,

I will learn to love it.

Monday Made It - A Book Using Only One Sheet of Paper!

Welcome summer!

This is my first full week of break

and I'm loving it!

I wanted to show you....

I have my kids make these a few times during the year. 

We use them when we need to record some info,

but I want to make it more interesting for the kids.

A mini-book does just that!

 First, take a sheet of paper and fold it in half.

Do this two more times until you end up with

a paper that is folded into eighths.

 Next, unfold the paper until you are back to the original 1/2 fold.

You need to cut the paper starting at the side with the fold.

Stop once you get to the middle crease.

 After you have cut it, open it up again.

This time, fold it in half the other way.

You can see where my marked line is on the paper.

This part always confuses a few of the kids.

Take the two ends, and push them together.

I'm holding only one end, because I had to take the picture!

You will notice that the paper opens in the center.

 Keep pushing the two ends and eventually they will come together.

Then, take the two pages on the left and fold them over 

to the pages on the right.

Viola!  An 8 page mini-book!

 (I'm counting the front and back of each page.)

I'm not on summer break yet, but I will be soon.

Organize my Classroom!

Here are some of my favorites:

DRAWS FOR EACH DAY OF THE WEEK

The drawers are labeled Monday - Friday
and the last one is for extra stuff.
I love being able to put things in the drawers
that I will need during the week.
It definitely keeps me organized.

SHOE BOXES FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES

I buy these for the class because not all sizes will fit into our desks.

CHECK OFF LIST FOR EACH ASSIGNMENT

Either you or the kids can check off the names as assignments are turned in.
I cut the lists into strips and place them with each assignment.

Yes, I already am starting my summer project list.  

My biggest mission is to redo my files.  

I'm bringing them all home, buying new folders and relabeling.  

I did this with my math last year and threw out a TON of papers. 

 I even nearly wrote each CC standard on each file.  

What's the problem?  

I don't know all the standards by heart.  

It shouldn't be too hard to relabel the folders.
