Grammar Girls/Guys and The History of Halloween

Here it is! 

This will be my one post for the week.

I have parent/teacher conferences

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night.

I'm sure by Friday I will have no energy to post.

Wish me luck.

 

So instead of getting things ready,

I'm writing to all of you.

 

These are two of my

 

1.  Grammar Girls/Guys/Animals/etc.

 

We are working a lot of recognizing and using

the different parts of speech.

A fun way to practice these skills

was by creating grammar characters.

Everyone chose their character.

We had animals, famous people, classmates

and some kids even created themselves.

Then we added hands, feet or other equipment

and details that went along with the character.

Finally, we filled in our information.

Each hand, foot or piece of equipment

had a different part of speech.

We used nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs

that were related to our character.

The whole project took about four days,

and the kids had a lot of fun.

Plus it will be great to have these up

for the parents to see at conferences.

 

#2 - The History of Halloween

with QR codes

 

I'm not a big fan of Halloween.

Never have been a fan,

but most kids love it!

In order to make it somewhat educational,

my students will learn about the History of Halloween. 

 

The students get to go around the room

and scan the code.

Then they read the information and answer the questions

on the worksheet that is provided.

 

I know that not everyone has access to QR code scanners,

so I've also included cards with the information and no codes.

 

This could be used as a whole class activity

where the teacher does one card a day.

I place the cards around the room

and we spend two days scanning and answering.

You could also make it into a center.

Basketball Grammar Freebie

It's time for college basketball!  Do you fill out the brackets? 

I do every year and have such high hopes of winning it all.... but that never happens. 

Will I try again this year?  You bethcha! 

Sports are such a big part of my students' lives. 

They play sports, cheer on sports teams and go to the games.  Creating some basketball themed grammar activities for them was a no-brainer. 

 I'm sharing them as a freebie in my store.

Five for Friday and a Freebie

I found this fun link-up called Five for Friday.

I get to list five random things that happened this week.  So here they are for you!

1. I started my new math centers.  I've posted about them earlier, but I am really excited about the results so far.

2. Some of the cabinets in my classroom got a good cleaning.  I donated a bunch of books to the teacher's lounge and now there is more space for me to fill up with new books.  Take a look at them now!

3.  I tried some new suffixes activities in my classroom and the kids actually cheered by the third day.  They were excited for the assignment.  Check out this product that I made for them.

4.  Here is a personal one - I watched with delight as my 3 year old, almost 4, learned how to hula hoop.  I laugh because I can't get that thing to go around once.  She stands there for about a minute and it just keeps going.  It really is super cute!

5.  I found the time to add a fun freebie to Tpt.  It's a St. Patrick's Day theme, but that is coming up so fast.  Maybe it is something that you can use.
